A season race nobody has to maintain

It is week 23 of 33 and the question in the clubhouse is the same one it has been since May: who is leading, and by how much? In most societies the answer lives in a spreadsheet that is accurate exactly as often as its keeper has a free evening. In Parful the standings are built from the results themselves, so the answer is current the moment an outing closes out.

Standings build from finalized results only

Nothing is typed into the standings. When an outing closes out, its finalized results move the race; an outing that was played but never finalized moves nothing, and the club home flags it as needing attention. That rule is what keeps the table honest: the standings are exactly the season’s finished golf, no more and no less.

Points the way your club actually scores the season

The points model is configurable per competition: a points table by finishing rank, participation points for turning up, and optional multipliers for the fixtures your club weights. A Stableford society can run a season-long order of merit; a medal club can run rank points; both are settings, not custom spreadsheets.

Divisions run their own races

Clubs that play in divisions get a table per division, so the mid-handicap race is its own contest rather than a footnote under the scratch players. Every player gets a drill-down: which outings produced their points and where the season turned.

The race is public and current

The standings page is part of the club’s public site: the podium, the full table, open in any phone browser with no login. When results publish at close-out, the page is already right, which retires the Sunday-night results email as a load-bearing institution.

Starting mid-season is the normal case

Seasons rarely begin the day a club decides to switch software. Import the roster, create the outings you have left, and run them: standings build from the outings finalized in Parful, so the race runs cleanly from the point you moved across.

Standings questions

Does someone have to update the standings after each outing?

No. Finalizing the outing moves the standings. There is nothing to type and nothing to reconcile.

Can we set our own points system?

Yes. Points tables by finishing rank, participation points, and optional multipliers are configured on the competition.

Do divisions get separate tables?

Yes, each division runs its own race, and every player has a drill-down into where their points came from.

What happens if an outing never gets finalized?

It moves nothing, and the club home flags it as needing attention until someone closes it out.
